New Job

new-job

My first day of work at my new job is tomorrow.  Wow… it has been almost three months since I’ve worked at all!! I’m not feeling nervous at all.  I think it’s because I’m so used to different clients, projects, teams at Deloitte.  I’m just worried I won’t be able to get up at 7am hehe.  I was googling ‘what to bring to work on the first day” and people say pens, paper…etc.  All I could think of was decorations for my cubicle haha!! I really hope I get a good cubicle!!! I haven’t had a stable cubicle during my time at Deloitte so I’m really looking forward to personalizing my space at work!! I wonder what I will be doing at work this week…cos after the first week I’ll be off a week on my cruise haha.

I put up the Christmas tree at home yesterday.  I just realize how small it is… we’ve had this tree since we came to Canada (since I was 6) so it certainly looks small now compared to before!  Here’s some pics of the tree with doggies:

Pebbles wouldn’t stay still so i pulled a trick!!! Whenever you put clothing on pebbles she freezes and doens’t move! so i put a shirt over her and she stood still nicely hahaha!

I read bleach 385 yesterday.  Man, it’s so hard to follow fight scenes when manga comes out once a week.  I should just save up and read it all together.  This chap is still about the blind captain fighting the wolf captain, except the blind captain looks like a hallow now! I want to see Gin fight… he’s so creepy cool. Other than Bleach and Naruto I haven’t really been watch/reading anime/manga… I guess I’m getting old :( I’ve been watching alot of TVB instead.

Yawns

yawns

Holy crap, it’s been so long since anyone has written here… tsk tsk to myself as well as I totally forgot haha… I should get back into the habit of blogging.. I’ve got too much to rant about.  But the bad thing about blogging is… after I blog about it, I don’t feel the need to talk to people anymore.  Not so sure if that’s a good thing.

I’m currently quite stressed about Christmas shopping!! Since I will be going on a cruise this Christmas, I’m not sure if I should just wait to buy everything on the Cruise/trip?  If not, it means I will only have ONE week to do all the shopping… sigh.  I’ll probably end up doing a bit of both… just buy parts of the gifts here and the rest on the cruise.  I really hope there’s a Swarovski store on the cruise!!!!!!!! The new collections are so adorable:

Swarovski   Swarovski

I sooooo want to get them (but such a waste of money :P ).

Tachikoma Robot!

tachikoma-robot

I’m a fan of the Ghost in the Shell anime and have seen all movies and TV series. Tachikoma is one of my favourite characters from the series. It’s a combative AI robot used to assist the main characters to fight (cyber) crimes. There has been a number of Tachikoma figures, plush doll produced since the inception of the anime. Here’s another one by Bandai. The uniqueness of this robot comes from its ability to connect to a computer via USB and flash various lights in its hand and body. A little useless if you ask me. Not to mention the software is only compatible with a Japanese OS (or OS with Japanese language support). The price tag on the cute little mecha isn’t so cute – $133€ + 36€ shipping.

Manga Gender Benders

October 29th, 2007 by tesserae
manga-gender-benders

I’ve been reading a lot of gender bender manga lately. In fact, I think it might be worthy of a genre on its own. Think about it … All sorts of naughty stuff are bound to happen when a person who’s been raised ad one gender gets thrust into the body of the opposite gender. It also makes for great romantic comedies. :)

One of my favourites is “Yours and my secret” (Boku to Kanojo no XXX). It’s been licensed and the first volume has been released, but I had bought the raws up to volume 3. The basic premise of the story is about a very sensitive and almost girly guy named Akira, and a borderline machoistic tomboy named Nanako switching bodies due to a scientific experiment gone wrong. The story also involves their best friends falling in love with them after the switch.

One of the things that I love about this series is that a lot of times, it’s very sweet. In fact, if you didn’t know that their bodies were switched, you could still enjoy the series. The body switch is the icing on an already delicious cake :) Other stories use the gender swap as the primary plot device, but this one builds on top of it instead.

I don’t know why, but the people who licensed it has only released the first volume! I’ve occasionally combed yesasia.com for more volumes, but I haven’t been able to find any more :( but I would highly recommend you pick up a copy today at your local bookstore.

Yes zukabun, you can borrow mine :)

New Season – Fall 2007 [Part 2]

October 9th, 2007 by evi
new-season-fall-2007-part-2

Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun [m.3.3.w]
This is a pretty random, fairly ecchi but funny anime. Shungo is a high school student who trains extremely (ie. bear fighting with bare hands) with his sister. Back at school, he seem to fear girls. Thanks to his sister, the Tsukimura siblings are going to live with them in their huge house. What’s more, Shungo is assigned the task of helping the younger Tsukimura, Mayu, to overcome her problem of androphobia. Supposedly, the Tsukimura are some demon beings that drains life force from the opposite sex and has the ability to attract them. Mayu is an extreme case but lacks the ability to control her power. Naturally, men are drawn to her but whoever touches her will faint. Somehow Shungo has some kind of resistance to this power and therefore his assistance is needed to help Mayu overcome her fears.

It’s pretty hilarious so far. Shungo’s sister randomly films them. And Shungo and Mayu are thrown onto the same bed, decorated with hearts, that night by the other their siblings. I got a good laugh out of the first episode. This one is staying on the to-watch list.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 [Nyoro~n]
I haven’t seen any other Gundam series so far but I don’t think they are related so it should be ok to just watch Mobile Suit 00. The series starts in the beginning of the 24th century where a boy is running around with a gun fighting in a war. Suddenly a large robot appeared in the sky and shot down all the enemy machines. The boy was in awe of the sight. Fast forward time, in AEU (some future country?), they are demonstrating their first mobile suit robot, Enact. A Gundam mobile suit, Exia, emerges from the sky and quickly defeated Enact. Meanwhile at the Celestial Being Spaceship, Kyrio (another Gundam) launches and is headed for the Heaven’s Pillar where a 10 year anniversary celebration is being held. Back at AEU, the departing Exia is being pursued by fighter jets. Little did they know, Gundam Dynames is locked and loaded on the ground under them. Dynames shot most of the fighter jets with Exia finishing off the last of them. At the Heaven’s Pillar, terrorists are detected and an airborne unit is dispatched to protect the station. However the unit is unable to take down the terrorists, who fire missiles directly at the pillar. At the last moment, Kyrios intercepted the shot and the pillar was hit with minor deflections. Lastly, Gundam Virtue finished off the terrorists with a big ass gun. Later on, from a video message broadcast on TV, the Celestial Being claimed to be a private army organization using Gundams. Their purpose is to end all warfare on the planet.

It’s definitely an action filled premier with all four Gundams appearing. Supposedly previous series had the Gundams split up in different forces but this one kept them together. I don’t have any series to compare this with. So as a fresh new series, I’m pretty excited about the story. The animation style and battles are nice. I’ll be anticipating more futuristic concepts from this series.

Mokke [Subber Anonymous]
Mokke didn’t strike me as much of an interesting series after the first episode. The story revolves around a pair of young sisters. The older sister, Shizuru, is able to see beings invisible to normal humans. The younger sister, Mizuki, attracts these beings. Since their grandpa is knowledgeable about these beings, they moved to live with their grandparents at the countryside. In the first episode, Mizuki is looking for the 7 flowers of autumn for her grandma before the harvest moon (sometime at the end of September). However, she felt that she is being followed at times. While the sisters are looking for the last flower at Yotsuji Pass, which the grandpa warned of its danger, Mizuki was attacked and fell unconscious. Shizuru is angry at herself for not being about to protect her younger sister. Grandpa informs her that the spirit that attacked Mizuki is called Mikoshi, a being that will kill you if you keep looking at it. He told her to think about what is scaring her and what does it mean for her to be able to see them. The next day, Mizuki was forced to stay home from school but since it was harvest moon day already, she sneaked out to search for the last flower. Shizuru catches Mizuki heading to the Yotsuji Pass as she returns from school and quickly followed her. However, by the time she caught up, Mizuki was already consumed by a Mikoshi. Shizuru looked down at it (literally stared it down) and it disappeared. Thus, she saved Mizuki. In the end, Mizuki was able to find the last flower.

The series reminds me of Mushishi. It seem to be a bit too serious for my taste. I’m not sure if it’s suppose to be an inspirational / educational anime. It’s just a bit boring for me. I will check out another episode or two before I stop watching it.

Night Wizard [Ashes]
Night Wizard is fully named as Night Wizard the Animation which makes me wonder if it’s made from some game. I didn’t bother finding out because I have somewhat of a bias towards game turned animes. My impression on Night Wizard is so-so. When the red moon raises, a dark tribe will attack the human world. A group of people whose mission are to fight them are called Night Wizards. Hiiragi is one of them even though he just wants to go to school and graduate. One day, Elis transfer to his school and was dragged into joining the astronomy club by Hiiragi’s childhood friend Akabane (also a Night Wizard). Akabane took her on a tour around the school. There was a withered sakura tree in the school yard which Elis had a strange reaction to. That night, Elis saw a huge red moon outside her window and started walking towards the school and that sakura tree as if she was possessed. Akabane also noticed the red moon and began to run outside when she saw Elis wandering in the street. At the sakura tree, a spherical jewel raises from the roots and Elis grabbed hold of it. Akabane caught up to Elis and was questioning her when all of a sudden a Lunar Casket, a field created by the dark tribe, appeared. A large three headed monster emerged. Akabane began fighting with her Bow Tex but was unable to suppress the monster. Hiiragi jumps out from the sky and began fighting the monster with his sword. However, the monster target was defenseless Elis! Just as Elis was about to be attacked, the jewel merged with her bracelet and formed a shield in front of her. Hiiragi took the chance to finish off the monster. The shield reshaped back into a bracelet. They realize that Elis has the power to become a Night Wizard as well.

Not bad of a series premier. It enjoyed the battles presented in this episode. The Night Wizards’ weapons are pretty cool. And they appear out of nowhere too! I will keep watching until I’m overwhelmed by the amount of battling animes there are to watch this season.

Rental Magica [Shinsen-Subs]
This was kind of a confusing first episode mainly due to the large amount of religious terms thrown at me in this episode. I spend 20 minutes watching the episode and close to another 20minutes reading the subber’s notes afterwards. Iba is the president to his family business – a magician dispatch service. The episode started out with a battle with a demon dog. Various magicians from Iba’s company were present. However, they were unable to capture the dog and a magician from another service finished the job. Back at the office, a girl from Iba’s class, Kunugi, came looking for a magician assistance. Iba introduced his magicians to her. Each of them has a specialization. The reason Kunugi came was because her grandfather had disappeared. She found Iba’s father business card which she believed is her grandpa’s and came looking for help. It turned out that Kunugi’s grandpa is a mage and had broke the taboo of soul-returning. Kunugi’s family had encounter an accident five years ago and it seems like her grandpa had broken the taboo to survive. But as time pass, the magical power become to overwhelming for him to control. At Kunugi’s residence, the magical power had taken Kunugi. Iba’s magician was unable to hold the power. Iba reveals his eyes which seem to be able to analyze the magical power. He instructs his magicians to strike specific part of the dark being and was able to defeat it.

I probably left out a lot of details in the above description. It’s due to the fact that I don’t exactly know how to describe the things in the anime briefly. There were so many religious, demons, purification references brought up throughout the episode that I spend 20 minutes reading about them afterwards! I can’t say I’m totally uninterested in the series but it’s not very captivating either. I’ll give it another few episodes to see how things go.

New Season – Fall 2007

October 7th, 2007 by evi
new-season-fall-2007

Towards the end of September, many animes I was watching wrapped up. Starting October, a ton of new series aired. It’s a promising new seasons with over 30 new animes to choose from. A little overwhelming. I briefly went through the synopsis of a majority of them as well as watched the promotional material on some. However, the videos weren’t subbed so I was kind of clueless as to what they were saying. Nonetheless, I got a feel for the animation style and the voice actors / actresses. The upcoming season felt a lot different from the ones I has been watching over the summer. There’s a number of romance, slice of life, drama type series. It seems to lack comedies but I guess I can only tell when I actually watch them. I’ve decided to give each series a try first, watching at least 2-3 episodes.

So, this week I got my hands on the following series premiers:

Blue Drop [Genjo]
I first downloaded a DMP sub of Blue Drop which turned out to be a parody sub. -.- A total waste of my limited bandwidth. The first episode of Blue Drop is kind of slow. It introduces the main characters. Mari Wakatake is transferring to this ‘noble’ boarding school. However, she felt that she’s being put there because her grandma just wants to get rid of her. Hagino Senkoji is Mari’s new roommate. Mari saw her during her ride to the new school where Hagino was surrounded by a flock of seagulls. As they shook hands after meeting in the dorm room, Hagino’s eyes turned blue as if she’s possessed and began choking Mari. In Mari’s mind, a flashback of a little girl crying in a sea of fire briefly appeared. Meanwhile at the school office, Mari’s homeroom teacher along with the headmaster are discussing an incident that occurred five years involving Mari. The details of the incident was not disclosed. Later on at dinner, Mari was introduced to the rest of the girls living in her dorm. Later that night, Mari noticed Hagino leaving the dorms and decided to follow her. She ends up at a shipyard, port-like area. She found Hagino standing in front of the waters. All of a sudden, a large purple machine / robot emerged from the waters. Hagino turns around with the aforementioned blue eyes while Mari watches with fear.

As I said earlier, episode 1 is slow. Characters are introduced and two mysteries are presented – the incident 5 years ago and Hagino with the weird robot. These was only briefly touched upon in this episode. I was hoping for a bit more action when I read the anime description. I will keep watching to see how things go. It still has potential to be good.

Clannad [SS-Eclipse]
Clannad seemed to be a much anticipated anime of the season from what I gathered in various anime forums and blogs. I have no idea what it is about or what the hype is for. From the description, it felt like a romantic series which is one type of anime I tend to avoid but I decided to give it a try to see if it’s worth all the hype. It turns out to be more interesting than I expected (though I was really expecting nothing from it). The animation style reminds me of AIR which may be why I was kind of against watching this. (I was absolutely confused in AIR.) Clannad is set in a (I think) post secondary school where main characters Tomoya Okazaki and Nagisa Furukawa attends. Tomoya is fairly indifferent towards going to school and is often late to classes. Contrarily, Nagisa really loves the school. She was away for a year and is now friendless. Tomoya met her on his way to school one day. He saw her eating lunch alone in the school yard and decided to chat with her for a bit. Nagisa wanted to join the Drama club but thinks that she lack physical strength to handle the activities. Tomoya encourages her to give it a try. But they found out that the club had been discontinued already. Tomoya went to Nagisa’s family bakery for a visit and met her kind of goofy parents. When he returned home, he was disgusted with his own half-drunken father, who had been drinking and gambling since Tomoya’s mother passed away when he was little.

The above description may sound like another romance story but there are some element of comedy in Clannad which really liven up the episode. It doesn’t fit the stereotype romance anime in my mind where a million girls falls for this one single guy or a bunch of love triangles occur. Several other girls were introduced but they don’t seem to be interested in Tomoya although that can’t be said for future episodes. This first episode really did introduce the story in a nice way. I’ll keep watching this until it changes into that annoying love stories (which I hope it doesn’t!).

Da Capo II [ASF] (not to be confused with Da Capo Second Season)
I’ve never watched the previous Da Capo series but from the story synopsis, there’s a 53 year gap between the last series and this. So, I figure I can’t be too lost without seeing them. This is another anime set in a school setting. The first episode introduced a lot of characters (and I’m pretty confused with all the names). Majority of the episode is spent in a school festival where the main purpose seems to be finding someone you like and accompanying them during the festival. It focused on three girls and three guys, where one of the girls (Koko) has a crushed on one of the guys (Yoshiyuki). She ended up confessing to him at the end but Yoshiyuki seem to already know about this from a premonition. He accepted to go out with her.

At first I thought this was yet another romance story but there was magic in this series as well! It was really unexpected since everything looked so normal. In the beginning of the episode, Yoshiyuki made breakfast for his sister and just ‘popped’ a sweet bun from his hand. I was literally shocked for a second since I was expecting a totally normal setting, nothing with magic. It seems that in addition to that, Yoshiyuki can also see dreams which is the reason why he was familiar with the confessing scene. Anyway, the series looks kind of interesting. Romance + magic, I guess can handle.

Dragonaut ~ The Resonances ~ [Infinite-Zero]
This had the best series premier so far. There were so many elements and concepts introduced that I’m really looking forward to watching this series. Main character Jin Kamishina was going to the moon with his family. His dad was the pilot of the spaceship. However, not long after launch, the spaceship was hit with asteroids and Jin was the sole survivor on the incident. Fast forward time a bit, Jin is now living with some of his relatives where he doesn’t seem to be very welcomed. In a TV report, it is revealed that the International Solarsystem Development Agency is working on a D-Project which is a mission to avoid destruction from an asteroid. As Jin heads to school, he was approached by a reporter inquiring about the incident and placing blame of his father, the pilot. Jin asked to be left alone and rushed onto a bus for school. As the reporter turns around, he caught a glimpse of a girl across the street. When he grabbed his camera, he was only able to take a blurry picture of her. On the bus, the other students were badmouthing Jin while he sits at the end of the bus. He intentionally didn’t get off when it arrived at the school. In a cafe, the reporter met with a scientist from the ISDA but she was unable to tell whether the girl in the picture is an Alwaurm Communicator (a wah?!). At the ISDA, Jin’s old friend Kazuki had a successful resonance and is now an official member of the Dragonaut. He now has his own dragon. Going back to Jin, he was walking along the streets when he heard a screaming sound. He went to check it out only to find a blue monster with glowing red marks on his body. The monster began to attack Jin as Jin attempts to escape. But he fails and was thrown off a building. However, a mysterious girl jumps over a rescues him. It was the same girl the reporter saw earlier and coincidentally, the reporter was around and confirms that the girl is indeed a communicator. The monster caught up with the building-leaping girl and engages in a battle. It was overpowered by the girl and got crashed into by a truck which then exploded. But that didn’t kill it and it ran away. A sedan quickly approaches the crash site where an old man reports to a young girl that ‘it has escaped’. Meanwhile, Jin had woken up and found himself on a grass field. He sees the girl who introduced herself as Toa. He does not feel alone anymore.

That is quite an action-packed first episode! ISDA, Dragonauts, Dragons, Communicator, monters… There are a ton of things introduced that needs further explanation. It really seem to be a great series to look forward to. I’ll most definitely keep watching it!

Kaiji [Triad]
Kaiji is by the same creator as Akaji so the animation is strikingly similar. It’s a definitely unique style. Kaiji is about gambling which has some resemblance to Akagi. Kaiji is the main character of the story whose life only revolves around gambling and liquor. When he loses, he vent out his anger by vandalizing import cars. One day, he was approached by a man who from a ‘financial firm’. Apparently, he cosigned a loan for an old coworker who had now disappeared. Kaiji is now left to pay the debt which total up to 3.85million yen which will take up to 11 years! Kaiji refuses to pay and argued that the interest rates are illegal. But the man threatened to bother his family. The man then present him with another option which is a gambling ship. Participants are given money to gamble with each other on the ship. If he wins, he can clear his debt and possibly take more money with him. If he loses, he’s taken away to work for a few years and still have to pay back the debt. Kaiji falls for the trap and joins. At the ship, they are allowed to borrow from 1million to 10million yen. If they repay 40% more than borrowed, they can leave free of debt. However the interests compound every 10 minutes at 40%! Without knowing what the gambling event is, Kaiji takes 10 million. At the next room, the first round of gambling is about to start. And the event is Restricted Rock Papaer Scissors!

I enjoyed the tactics and twists in Akagi so I’m looking forward to this series. However, there are notable difference between Akagi and Kaiji. Akagi was a genious. Kaiji is a bum. It’ll be interesting to see how Kaiji get himself out of the hell hole!

Myself; Yourself [m.3.3.w]
This is the least interesting series I’ve encounter so far for the new season. The first episode begins with a group of friends, elementary school aged, gathering to bid farewell to one of them, Sana. After 5 years, Sana returns to the town. Not a lot has changed except a store here and there. He first headed to the shrine and notices this girl there sweeping the floor. He thought she was pretty. Sana then headed to his apartment. It turns out that the landlord was the family of one of his childhood friend. Next day, Sana went to school and found two other childhood friends in his class! At lunch time, he saw the girl from the shrine and was introducing himself. However, it turns out that the girl was also one of his childhood friend. She was still wearing a bracelet which Sana gave her back then. The girl was angry and slapped his face.

Hm.. I don’t see anything from this series. Other than characters, nothing else were introduce to make a story. Something for sure will happen between Sana and shrine girl, Nanaka but I’m not here to watch a pure romance. So unless the next episode adds more interesting elements, this is off my to-watch list. Btw, the shrine girl so looked like the childhood friend. How can he not notice!?! IDIOT!

You’re Under Arrest Full Throttle [Naked]
Again, this is a sequel series but I haven’t watch any of the previous series. I hope I won’t be too lost in this. The first episode had quite a bit of action in it. I like!!!!! Miyuki and Natsumi are police officers (traffic? I haven’t quite figure it out yet.) who had gone away for training. Today is their return date. Miyuki is flying back from America. She met with a boy Randy at the airport who turns out to be seated next to her on her flight. They played video games together. Randy told Miyuki that her mother and grandfather are from Japan. He wanted to go see the castles and samuri so he can ask them how to be strong. After landing, Miyuki found the boy sitting alone terminal. Randy told her his grandpa isn’t coming. At the time, a man in a dark suit came and took Randy and forced Randy to go with him. Randy asked Miyuki to save him. Miyuki quickly kicked a nearby suitcase to knock out the man. She grabbed Randy and took off with a car outside the arrival terminal. A dark sedan pulled up and the man went in. A car chase ensues. Miyuki found out that Randy is the son of a rich man who had recently died. Natsumi was eating lunch at a restaurant when she saw the car chase news report on TV. She recognizes the driving style of Miyuki and quickly took off in a motorcycle. Police quickly followed the chase but were shot at by the man. Miyuki headed for her ‘castle’ (police station). As the man tried to shoot at Miyuki’s car, Natsumi caught up and kicked him in the face. She then leaped into Miyuki’s car. They finally arrived at the station where Natsumi used her foot (boot) to force a 90 degree turn just before the row of police car. The dark sedan end up crashed into them and the man were faced with a bunch of police with guns. However, Miyuki wasn’t a whole lot better off with the ‘borrowed’ car crashed at the side.

I enjoyed the episode which was pretty exciting and funny at the same time. If the series continues to be like this, I will like this anime a lot. I think it has the potential and will definitely follow up on it. Maybe I’ll even watch the prequels to this.

Wow that was a long post! There are still a number of series that I’m interested in watching. Most notably are:
Sketchbook~full color’s~
Mobile Suit Gundam 00
ef – a tale of memories
Jyuushi Enbu – HERO TALES-
GENSHIKEN 2 !!! A MUST!
Ghost Hound

Another note, the game I was once quite attached to, Maple Story, had came out with an anime. It looked pretty childish and doesn’t really resemble the game that much. I will watch the first episode just for the heck of it and likely say goodbye to it.

Berserk

September 19th, 2007 by evi
berserk

Although the initial impression of this anime was somewhat boring, I can’t help but keep watching during episodes 10+. Maybe it’s because the series was produced in the late 90s, a style that I had gotten a bit tired of or unable to adapt to. The animation annoys me a bit and much of the storyline felt stereotypical. The plot is set in medieval-like times, revolving around an army of mercenaries turned soldiers, Band of Hawks. Commoner turned knight/court. Egotistic aristocrat. Princess falling in love with commoner. Arrogant rival army. These can all be found in Berserk. The main character, Guts, is not really part of the stereotypical trends of this series. He has astonishing sword fighting abilities and is a captain in Hawks. Maybe it’s because the last few episode had been around Guts that I had the interest in continuing the series despite it being late into the night. The end of the story had already been foreshadowed in the first episode with Griffith as an immortal and the King of Midland and Guts slaughtering him with his sword. Now it’s just a matter of how things will lead up to that ending.

—-After I’ve completed the series—

Even though it has been foreshadowed in the beginning, it’s still pretty creepy seeing all those monster being appearing one by one during the eclipse. I think this anime is one of great character relationships development. The Behelit charm Griffith hold qualifies him to being a demon but it requires a scarifice. In the flow of destiny, Griffith had chosen Guts to be the sacrifice. Was it really friendship that Griffith want or was it for the sake of scarifies? Guts of course consider Griffith a great friend and looks up to him dearly. It might be the words he said to the Princess that triggered Guts to find a battle, a destiny of his own. But what are Griffith’s motives? Did Griffith really consider Guts a possession of his? Did Griffith know of this sacrificial part all along? Or did Griffith subconsciously considered Guts a great friend and fell apart when he left? Griffith, although seen as a strong and charming leader, is in fact a pretty fragile soul. It could be attributed to his inexperience in failure which can be an explanation of his abnormal behaviour that lead to his arrest after Guts had left the Band of Hawks. Even though the storyline of Berserk goes into a fantasy aspect, the characters development, response and actions are very reflective of realistic human behaviours. I think the Japanese are pretty good at incorporating these elements into their animes, unlike most of western cartoons which reeks of stupidity.

And WOW the scene between young Griffith and the old lady at the ‘road’ to castle is pretty deep in its philosophical and life meaning. Whether or not Griffith knew of this from the beginning, it is ultimately the ending he wants. He was the one who gave the final words for the Baptism to start.

The ending of Berserk was pretty cliffhanging and lacking but many sources had already warn me that the anime is really just a bait to get you to start reading the manga. I checked out the storyline of the manga on Wiki and it sounded pretty crazy – violent, psycho-like. Well, I never read mangas so I doubt I’ll make an exception here, especially when the plot seems too much for me.

About Vash

September 19th, 2007 by evi
about-vash

It’s been awhile since I added an entry. I’ve drafted up several blog for animes I was watching but never really got around to finishing them up to a satisfactory level. I dug out something I’ve written up about Vash after I completed the Trigun series.

The first half of the series were pretty funny and interesting. It had gone serious since the appearance of Legato and the Gung-ho Guns. More is revealed about Vash, who turns out to be a boy saved by the Seed project. As Earth was no longer able to sustain its resources for the fast consumption of human beings, various Seed projects (rockets) launched into space in attempts to find a suitable planet to start over. Vash and his brother Knives were found by one of the Seed projects and taken in by Rem, a member of the project. Although Vash and Knives were not entirely human, Rem took care of them and taught them basic moral concepts. As non-humans, they have supernatural powers. As Vash grown to be very close to Rem, abiding by many of her teachings, Knives began to look down upon humans, using his superior IQ and abilities to overtake the ship. It might as well have been triggered by humans themselves as some crew member on board often refer to the brothers as monsters. Knives override the computer systems and were sending all Seed project ships back to Earth, which would cause all of them to be destroyed in the atmosphere. He blamed it on a crew member which he cleverly manipulated the captain to released into space (and into his death). While Knives, Vash and Rem were approaching the safety pods to escape from the descending ship, Rem chose to stay behind and tried to save the last of human beings. She succeeded but was sacrificed meanwhile. Knives revealed the truth about his doing to his brother, thinking Vash would accept it as they are superior but Vash took the death of Rem hard and had total hatred for his brother who caused it. They had since went their separate ways. Eventually, Knives would send the Gung-ho Gangs to chase Vash. The series ended with a battle between Knives and Vash. I’m still a little confused as to what that ‘gun’ transformed from Vash’s arm is. .. Anyone care to explain?
